FG reiterates commitment to dualization of Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe road

The Federal Government has announced that it was putting finishing touches to the process of dualising the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe RoadTowards this end, Government has opened negotiations to secure a $1.1billion loan from the Chinese EXIM Bank for the construction to commence by 2025.
This was revealed by the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi in Abuja, Tuesday.

According to him, in line with the policy direction of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Renewed Hope Agenda, the Ministry has since presented a well-articulated memo to the National Council of States which has been approved for execution under the President’s road infrastructure legacy projects.

Umahi said he was glad to report that already, Messrs CGC has been appointed contractors for the project, while the requisite designs are being finalised with the support and active participation of the Plateau State Government.

The minister said, “It is hoped that the procurement process will follow soon, so that by 2025 actual construction will begin. Mr. President listens to the cries of Nigerians who pass through the Abuja- Jos- North East corridor.

Speaking in a similar vein, the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, said as a regular user of the road in question long before becoming governor, he was aware of the concerns of Nigerians over the state of the strategic road.

He promised to mobilise relevant stakeholders to persuade President Bola Tinubu to prioritise the construction and dualization of the road, while expressing his desire to engage the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to explore collaboration for remedial intervention pending the commencement of the dualization project.
