Filmmaker Aniebiet Francis Breaks Silence on Rumours About Lesbian Relationship, Gifts, and Political Appointments

Nollywood filmmaker and Akwa Ibom State Governor’s aide on New Media, Aniebiet Francis, has responded to a string of rumors that have followed her rise in public life.

In a powerful and introspective Facebook post on Wednesday, Francis laid bare the controversies she has faced throughout her personal and professional journey many of them rooted in misogyny, gossip, and attempts to discredit her achievements.

Francis, known for her outspoken voice and media presence, recounted how each milestone in her life has sparked fresh speculation.

From owning a car to receiving political appointments, she has been subjected to unverified claims, including accusations of sleeping with powerful men, using mystical products like kayanmata, and even being financially supported by a lesbian partner.

“In my university days, they said I was sleeping with my support system,” she wrote. “When I got my first car, a gift from my Governor, they said married men bought it for me.”

She continued by narrating how she bought her own Lexus but was quickly accused of having received it from her boss due to a supposed romantic relationship.

“I opened a restaurant, they said it was funded by my lesbian partner. I got appointed, they said I got it through sex. I moved to a new spot, they said I used kayanmata.”

Despite the persistent false narratives, Francis maintained a defiant and confident tone. She declared that she has come to accept the inevitability of public scrutiny in the face of success, stating:

“Every milestone I hit attracts a controversy, and every level I rise to births a new lie. But you know what? I’ll take progress with controversy over stagnation with pity any day.”

Her post ends on a reflective yet bold note:

“So I wake up every morning, look up to the heavens, and say: Dear God, I am due for a new controversy.”

Francis’ candid message has resonated with many, especially women in the public eye who often find their accomplishments questioned or attributed to invisible benefactors.

This isn’t the first time Francis has spoken out. In the past, she has criticized societal double standards that shame women for being ambitious, single, or financially independent. However, this latest post is one of her most personal yet laying bare the emotional toll of being constantly misunderstood, yet choosing to persevere.
