Finance Minister Wale Edun Debunks Stroke Rumours, Says He’s Recovering in Abuja

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has dismissed rumours claiming he suffered a stroke and was flown abroad for treatment.

Former presidential aide and investigative journalist, Jackson Ude, revealed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the minister personally refuted the viral reports, clarifying that while he had been unwell, his condition was not as serious as alleged.

According to Ude, Edun stated, “I don’t have stroke. I am in Abuja and feeling better.”

The minister explained that he had cancelled his planned trip to Washington DC for the 2025 International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Annual Meetings due to mild health concerns but opted to remain in Abuja to receive treatment.

In his clarification, Edun further emphasized that he was never diagnosed with a stroke and is now recovering well. “I got a bit sick and had to stay back to get treatment. I am getting better now,” he said.

His statement follows widespread online speculation about his health, which surfaced after his absence from a recent economic delegation.

The rumours, which claimed he had been flown out of Nigeria for emergency care, have now been laid to rest with his confirmation that he remains in the country and is recuperating.
