Focus on FCT, Leave Enugu Alone – Hon Tochukwu ogbodo Blasts Wike”

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has been warned to focus on his federal affairs and allow Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah to concentrate on his good works for the people of Enugu State.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, who was also a former Special Assistant to the Governor, Hon. Tochukwu Ogbodo, made this known on Friday in Enugu through a press statement he sent to newsmen.

He stated that Wike’s interference in Enugu politics is unacceptable and an extension of his history of political oppression and instability.

According to Ogbodo, the former Rivers State governor has refused to relinquish his influence even after leaving office, causing unnecessary tension in various political circles. He accused Wike of attempting to extend the same control tactics he used in Rivers to Enugu, a move that will be strongly resisted.

Ogbodo further alleged that Wike’s tenure in Rivers was characterized by financial recklessness and authoritarian leadership.

He noted that Wike mismanaged state resources, prioritized personal projects over meaningful development, and left behind a divided political structure that continues to haunt the state. He warned that Enugu will not tolerate the same brand of disruptive leadership.

The PDP stalwart commended Governor Mbah for his pragmatic approach to governance, emphasizing that his administration has brought economic transformation and infrastructural renewal to Enugu; adding that while Wike governed through intimidation, Mbah has fostered inclusive leadership, ensuring that the state remains on the path of stability and development.

Ogbodo urged PDP leaders at the national level to rein in Wike before he causes further harm to the party’s stability. He stressed that Wike’s continuous involvement in state affairs beyond his jurisdiction is a distraction that should not be condoned. He warned that any further interference in Enugu’s politics will be met with strong opposition from the people, who remain resolute in their support for Governor Mbah.

The statement reads, PRESS RELEASE

“Leave Enugu Out of Your Political Tyranny, Wike!”

The political landscape in Nigeria has witnessed many self-serving individuals, but none as desperate and reckless as former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike. His unrelenting quest for dominance, even after leaving office, has not only plunged Rivers State into crisis but has also extended to Enugu, where he now seeks to undermine Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. This brazen act of political sabotage is unacceptable and must be stopped immediately.

Wike’s history is riddled with political oppression, electoral violence, and a blatant disregard for democratic principles. His eight-year rule in Rivers State was characterized by the systematic suppression of opposition voices, targeted intimidation of political adversaries, and the excessive use of state power to silence dissent. Under his watch, Rivers became a theater of political violence, with allegations of extrajudicial killings and election rigging becoming the norm. Now, this same man, infamous for his dictatorial tendencies, believes he can extend his reign of impunity to Enugu.

One of Wike’s most destructive legacies was his abuse of state resources for personal aggrandizement. Rather than prioritizing sustainable governance, he squandered billions on frivolous projects that served his political ego rather than the people of Rivers. His financial recklessness left a trail of economic stagnation and political instability, forcing his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, to battle against the shadows of a predecessor who refuses to move on. The same strategy he used to control Rivers from behind the scenes is now being attempted in Enugu, and it must be resisted.

In addition to economic mismanagement, Wike’s tenure was infamous for his disrespect towards traditional rulers and community leaders. His public humiliation of monarchs, whom he once referred to as “toothless bulldogs,” demonstrated his deep-seated arrogance and disregard for the cultural institutions that uphold societal harmony. This pattern of authoritarianism is why he continues to act like a political overlord, even after leaving office. But let it be made clear: Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is not a man to be controlled by political bullies.

Governor Mbah has distinguished himself through strategic governance, focused economic reforms, and infrastructural expansion that have repositioned Enugu as the economic nerve center of the South East. Unlike Wike, who ruled through intimidation and political showmanship, Mbah has led with intelligence, diplomacy, and results-driven governance. The people of Enugu will not stand by and allow Wike’s toxic political influence to infiltrate their state and derail the progress being made.

The silence of PDP leaders in the face of Wike’s overreach is deeply concerning. Rather than upholding internal party discipline, they have allowed him to operate unchecked, even as he continues to work against the interests of the PDP. His flirtation with the ruling APC, his betrayal of the party’s presidential candidate, and his relentless attacks on PDP structures prove that he is a man without loyalty. Yet, Governor Mbah has remained resolute in ensuring that PDP retains its strength in Enugu and the South East, despite the actions of political saboteurs like Wike.

It is time for Wike to understand that his era of unchecked power is over. His attempt to interfere in Enugu politics is a miscalculation that will be fiercely resisted. The people of Enugu will not allow their governor to be distracted by a man who thrives on political anarchy. Wike’s destabilization tactics will meet a wall of resistance, and if he continues on this path, he will find himself politically isolated and disgraced.

Governor Mbah has the full support of the people, and any attempt to undermine his leadership will be met with decisive resistance. Wike must keep his hands off Enugu and focus on his duties as FCT Minister—if he has any interest in governance beyond his selfish ambitions. His habitual interference in state affairs is a national embarrassment, and his political games will no longer be tolerated.

Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is building a legacy of progress and stability in Enugu, and no amount of external sabotage will derail his vision. Wike must immediately withdraw from Enugu’s political affairs and abandon his misguided attempt to dictate governance beyond his jurisdiction. Any further provocation will be met with strong political consequences.

Signed
Hon. Tochukwu Ogbodo
Former Special Assistant to the Governor of Enugu State.
