Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai Expelled from SDP as Kano Transport Commissioner Ibrahim Namadi Resigns Amid Controversy

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has been expelled from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) declaring him ineligible to associate with the SDP in any capacity for the next 30 years.

The announcement followed a thorough investigation into El-Rufai’s controversial claims of party membership and accusations of forging documents manipulating internal processes and attempting to destabilize the party through unconstitutional and deceptive political activities.

The SDP stated that El-Rufai never duly registered at the ward level as required by the party’s constitution and accused him of falsely presenting himself as a member on social media and in political forums.

He was also alleged to have publicly aligned with another party the African Democratic Congress (ADC) while trying to draw the SDP into an unapproved coalition. These actions were described by the SDP as acts of gross indiscipline and misrepresentation that threatened party unity and integrity.

Consequently, the SDP banned El-Rufai from identifying with the party’s name, insignia, logo, or participating in any party affairs for 30 years, effective immediately.

The party has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other institutions to take note of El-Rufai’s non-member status and warned that he is unauthorized to act or speak on behalf of the SDP.

The Kaduna State chapter of the SDP, however has publicly disputed the expulsion insisting that El-Rufai remains a bona fide member and respected leader within the party at the state level.

In a related development, Kano State’s Commissioner for Transportation, Ibrahim Namadi, has resigned amid ongoing controversy.

Details of the reasons behind Namadi’s resignation have yet to be fully disclosed but the move comes at a time of increasing scrutiny over governance issues in the state’s transport sector.

Authorities are expected to announce steps for replacing him and addressing the concerns raised.
