Former Lawmaker Egoh Rebukes Amaechi’s Comments on Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road Project

Former House of Representatives member Hon. Oghene Egoh has taken aim at former Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, over his recent comments labelling the Federal Government’s Lagos–Calabar coastal road project as fraudulent.

Amaechi, a former presidential aspirant, had stated he would terminate the project if elected president. However, Egoh, who represented Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency and defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2024, condemned Amaechi’s remarks as ill-advised and lacking moral authority.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday, Egoh highlighted Amaechi’s track record, arguing that during his tenure as Minister of Transportation, he neglected critical infrastructure development in the Niger Delta, instead focusing on building a railway to Niger Republic.

Describing the Lagos–Calabar coastal road as a transformative initiative, Egoh said the project would enhance trade, foster inter-state cooperation, and stimulate economic growth throughout the South-South region and Lagos State.

He further noted that the road would create employment opportunities, improve transportation networks, and promote national unity.

Egoh also praised President Bola Tinubu’s “bold and decisive” policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies, stressing that while the nation faces temporary economic hardships, the long-term outlook is positive.

“Hunger in the land is a temporary challenge. Already, prices of rice and tomatoes are dropping. With time, other food commodities will follow,” he said.

The former lawmaker added that the government is actively empowering farmers to ensure food security and reduce reliance on imports.

Egoh called on Nigerians to remain patient and support the current administration’s reforms, emphasizing that “what previous administrations could not achieve, President Tinubu is achieving.”
