Former Minister, Chidoka, cautions of imminent crisis, vows to guide party through troubled times.
Prior to the upcoming National Executive Committee meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday, former Minister of Aviation and party member, Osita Chidoka, has expressed concerns about the potential impact of the decisions made during the meeting.
Chidoka emphasized that the outcome of the meeting has the power to either enhance or harm the party’s reputation.
In a statement released on Wednesday evening, Chidoka specifically addressed the PDP governors and the National Assembly Caucus, urging them to carefully consider the implications of their decisions.
He emphasized the importance of unity and strategic decision-making in order to strengthen the party and secure its position in the political landscape.
Reports have indicated that the upcoming NEC meeting, scheduled for later today, will discuss various issues, including the possible replacement of the current acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.
It is worth noting that Damagum, who previously held the position of PDP Deputy National Chairman, North, assumed the role of acting National Chairman after Iyorchia Ayu was indefinitely suspended by a court in Benue State in March 2023.
Opinions among the party’s stakeholders are divided on the issue of selecting a successor to complete Ayu’s tenure as per the party’s constitution.
Some argue that a member from the North Central region should be elected, while others support the idea of appointing Damagum as the next substantive chairman.
