From Aspiration: An Honorable Member – Chima Obieze

By Chiekezie Emmanuel.

The member representing Ezeagu Constituency, Hon. Chima Obieze, shares political hurdles.

The honorable member representing Ezeagu local government area in Enugu State House of Assembly discloses his challenges while in pursuit of his aspiration.

He revealed this on his social media handle where he stated that on October 20th, 2014, when he purchased the party nomination form for the Enugu State House of Assembly, he encountered the PDP woman leader. She advised him to save his money and not waste it, saying that the former Governor of Enugu State and the leader of the party, Gov. Sullivan Chime, had informed them that Hon. Cecilia Ezeilo would be returning to the Enugu State House of Assembly.

In what appeared to be an inspired and unplanned response, he replied to her, “Ma’am, I really appreciate your kindness and thoughtfulness. But you see, this is my first political outing after my university education, and I intend to either win or be known by my people.”

He further added that this contest would offer him an opportunity to meet the Governor he admires face-to-face again since he left his position as the Student Union Government (SUG) president of ESUT.

He explained why he wouldn’t leave his aspiration: “I love and respect the former Governor, and that’s why I must continue so he can call me one-on-one and tell me to step down. Besides, as much as I revere him, he is still human; he has spoken, but God has not. Who knows? Maybe God may speak a different language.”

Due to his endurance and resilience, he purchased the form. True to her words, the night before the primaries, he was invited and told to withdraw from the race to allow the incumbent to continue—a move he accepted without hesitation, “thanks to the guidance of my boss, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu.”

As he left that day, something in him kept telling him that God had not spoken, but what could he do? Two weeks after he stepped down for the incumbent, he was on his way back from the village when his phone rang. It was Ikeoha. He said, “Drive straight to the Government House and meet the Governor. Hon. Cecilia Ezeilo has been chosen to become the Deputy Governor, and Gov. Sullivan Chime has accepted to give you the ticket to replace her.”

He emphasized that resilience, hard work, and determination are key. “Hear these words and have faith. Do your part, and whatever God has willed for you will eventually happen,” he said.
