Frontline Soldier Warns Citizens May Have to Defend Themselves Amid Escalating Violence

A Nigerian soldier has raised serious concerns about the country’s growing insecurity, expressing frustration over what he describes as deep-rooted issues within the nation’s security system.

In a message widely circulated online, the soldier alleged that frontline troops are being left vulnerable despite escalating violence, with casualties on the rise.

He claimed that many personnel feel abandoned and overstretched, and accused political leaders of prioritizing personal interests over national security.

The soldier highlighted that the welfare of military families is being neglected, creating a growing sense of resentment among officers.

He warned that the worsening situation could eventually push both citizens and security personnel to defend themselves individually, as confidence in leadership continues to erode.

In part, the soldier wrote:

“Ladies and gentlemen of the armed forces, something fishy is going on that we do not understand. If it comes to it, we may have to pick up arms to defend our families. We have served loyally, yet some are busy counting money while their children live abroad. I am tired. It may reach a point where everyone fights for themselves. I can no longer save the nation, and I question whether we even have a president anymore.”

The soldier’s message underscores growing frustration within Nigeria’s military ranks as the country grapples with rising insecurity and ineffective leadership.
