Fulani Organization Initiates Nationwide Voter Registration Awareness Campaign for Herders
The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has initiated a nationwide, house-to-house voter registration sensitization campaign targeting herders across Nigeria.
The National President of KACRAN, Khalil Moh’d Bello, disclosed this development in a statement to newsmen on Monday.
The campaign began last Thursday in Jakusko Local Government Area of Yobe State and comes in response to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
“KACRAN recognizes the importance of this process for its members and is committed to ensuring that pastoralists are not disenfranchised,” the Association said.
Acknowledging the unique challenges faced by herders such as their frequent presence in remote areas and the complexity of digital voter registration the association stressed the need to empower them to participate fully in Nigeria’s democratic process.
The sensitization campaign aims to:
- Educate herders on how to register children who have turned 18.
- Assist members who have lost their voter cards or need to update their information due to migration.
- Ensure that pastoralists are prepared to vote or stand for election in the 2027 general elections.
KACRAN also commended INEC for its inclusive approach, highlighting that even inmates are being registered. The association emphasized that herders, as rightful citizens, deserve full access to their constitutional voting rights.
The group called on all levels of government and well-meaning Nigerians to support and collaborate with INEC’s efforts to register more eligible voters, update voter information, and register new political parties thereby expanding the democratic choices available to Nigerians.
