FUNAAB Final-Year Student Reflects on Early Struggles: “I Wanted to Drop Out After Failing 8 Courses”

A final-year student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has captured attention online after sharing his academic journey from failure to near-completion.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), the student identified as @meloadebanks_ revealed that he failed eight courses during his 100-level second semester, with only two distinctions in practicals.

The tweet was a response to a conversation around academic carryovers.

“I carried the whole semester,” he wrote alongside a screenshot of the results. When asked if he actually took the exams, he admitted, “Yes, I didn’t. I wanted to drop out. Was suicidal. I was dancing with the devil and messing with dangerous people.”

Despite the rough start, he shared that he has since bounced back academically. “I cleared all except four courses, which I dropped in 300 level and retook in 500 level. I’m now waiting for the final results.”

His openness about academic struggles, mental health, and personal growth has inspired many others, with social media users commending his resilience and sharing their own stories of perseverance in school.
