Geh Geh Stirs Controversy Over Claims That Asake Held Back Olamide’s Career in Viral Album Review

Popular social media commentator and music reviewer, Geh Geh, has ignited intense debate online following his bold critique of Olamide’s latest self-titled album, Olamide.

In a viral video posted on Instagram, Geh Geh praised the quality of the project but took direct aim at Asake, a former signee of Olamide’s YBNL label, accusing him of being a major stumbling block in the rapper’s career progression.

According to Geh Geh, the brilliance of Olamide’s new album proves that the artist had been creatively restrained for years — allegedly due to dedicating too much time, energy, and resources to grooming artists like Asake and Fireboy DML.

“This new album shows the real Olamide — the one we’ve been missing. He had been too focused on building Asake and Fireboy. Asake, in particular, was a hindrance. But now that he’s gone, Olamide channeled that energy into this masterpiece,” Geh Geh said in the video.

While acknowledging the album’s quality, Geh Geh also critiqued Olamide’s release strategy. He argued that the album should have dropped in December to capitalize on the festive buzz and reach a larger audience. He also questioned the decision to include high-profile collaborations on a self-titled project.

“This should’ve been a December release. It would’ve made more noise. Also, why feature Wizkid and Seyi Vibez on an album meant to focus on Olamide? This was his chance to shine solo — or better yet, to use the spotlight to revive Fireboy’s slowing momentum. Rema is clearly ahead of him now,” he added.

The controversial take sparked heated reactions on social media, with many fans defending Olamide’s legacy and questioning Geh Geh’s authority to critique such a veteran.

Some notable responses included:

  • @dollarman_exchange: “A 17-year-old boy dey advise legend.”
  • @sirleocarter: “You’re new here and criticizing a man who’s been giving us back-to-back classics for over 10 years?”
  • @swizzmayor: “You can’t compare Mavin’s promo budget to YBNL’s. Don Jazzy has more tools. Fireboy still makes meaningful music.”
  • @i_am_liskc: “The album had to drop now for Grammy eligibility. December would’ve been too late.”

Despite the backlash, the video has kept fans talking, adding to the buzz surrounding Olamide’s latest release.
