Gombe Police Rescue Abandoned Babies, Arrest Teens for Alleged Rape

The Gombe State Police Command has recorded notable successes in its crime-fighting efforts with the rescue of two abandoned infants and the arrest of two teenagers over alleged sexual assault.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed that a three-month-old girl was rescued on September 15, 2025, after being allegedly handed over by her mother, Fatima Abdullahi, 20, from Yobe State, in collusion with one Adama Ibrahim.

The baby had been given to Fatima Haruna of Liji Quarters, Gombe, who fled with the child. The suspects were later arrested at the Trailer Park in Tumfure, Akko Local Government Area. Investigations are ongoing, and they will be charged to court.

In a separate incident, a newborn boy was abandoned in a carton and discovered by a tricycle rider, Auwal Abdullahi of Kwadon, on September 9, 2025.

The child was left behind by an unidentified woman at YD Filling Station Junction. The infant was taken into custody and handed over to the Gombe State Social Welfare Department, while investigations continue.

DSP Abdullahi also reported the arrest of two 14-year-old herders, Danladi Babangida and Samaila Sulaiman, accused of raping a 13-year-old girl in Pindiga, Akko Local Government Area. Following a complaint lodged on September 12, the suspects confessed to the crime.

The victim and the suspects were taken to General Hospital, Kashere, for medical examination, and the case is currently with the Gender Unit of the State CID.

The Police PRO condemned sexual violence in all its forms and urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly. He assured the public that the Command remains committed to protecting vulnerable members of the community and ensuring that perpetrators face the full force of the law.

Child abandonment and sexual violence remain pressing issues in parts of the North-East, including Gombe. Previous reports indicate rising incidents linked to socioeconomic challenges, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and swift action by authorities.
