Governor Alex Otti Declares Loyalty to Labour Party, Distances Himself from ADC Coalition
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has firmly stated that he remains a committed member of the Labour Party and has no intention of joining the newly formed opposition coalition, which adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development follows the high-profile unveiling of an opposition coalition at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.
Political heavyweights such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi were in attendance.
During the meeting, the entire ADC National Executive Committee resigned to allow for a leadership transition, with former Senate President David Mark appointed as interim National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as interim National Secretary.
Speaking at an interactive session with the Abia State Global Economic Council in Umuahia, Governor Otti clarified his stance amid growing speculation about his political allegiance.
He emphasized that he had not participated in any coalition meeting and was not approached to join. “Have you seen my name? Have you seen me attending any coalition meeting?” he asked rhetorically.
Otti reiterated that his focus remains on delivering good governance to the people of Abia State. He acknowledged that while the Labour Party had faced internal issues, most challenges had either been addressed or would be resolved in due course.
“You have a right to dream, I also have the right to state that I’m still a member of the Labour Party and I’m not looking for where to decamp to,” Governor Otti said, reaffirming his loyalty and commitment to his current political platform.
