Governor Alia Orders Swift Crackdown on Killers of Igede Youths, Nyifon Community Attackers
Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has issued a strong condemnation of the recent violence that claimed the lives of two Igede youths along the Awajir-Oju road.
According to security reports, the victims were ambushed while riding a motorcycle from Oju. In a separate but equally disturbing incident, youths from Mbayaka community in Kusuv reportedly attacked Nyifon community in Mbaikyongo Ward, Buruku Local Government Area. The violence is believed to have stemmed from a disagreement over a boat mishap.
“These incidents, though separate, are unjustifiable and deeply regrettable,” Governor Alia said. “No one has the right to invade another community or inflict harm under any circumstance.”
Governor Alia has directed security agencies to work closely with local traditional rulers to investigate both attacks thoroughly. He issued a 48-hour ultimatum for the identification and arrest of the perpetrators, insisting they must face the full weight of the law.
He emphasized that Benue State is making significant progress in restoring security and warned that any action threatening that progress will not be tolerated.
“I remain fully committed to protecting lives and property in Benue,” the Governor stated, urging all communities to maintain peace and support the ongoing investigations.
