Governor Biodun Oyebanji Reaffirms Commitment to Food Security with Strategic Agricultural Initiatives in Ekiti State

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has reaffirmed his administration’s strong commitment to food security through strategic agricultural investments and the establishment of effective storage and distribution systems.

During a recent inspection of a newly built storage facility for farm produce in Ado-Ekiti Governor Oyebanji highlighted the state government’s efforts to combat food scarcity reduce post-harvest losses, and ensure a steady food supply throughout the year.

Governor Oyebanji emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directive for all state governors to prioritize food security as a crucial step in addressing hunger nationwide.

He revealed that over 6,000 hectares of farmland were cultivated in Ekiti State in 2024 primarily involving young farmers under the Bring Back Youth to Agriculture program.

The new storage facilities are intended to store these farm products during bumper harvests for release during periods of scarcity helping to regulate food prices and stabilize supply.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the progress so far and assured that the government remains dedicated to alleviating hunger and fostering agricultural growth.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security Mr. Boluwade Ebenezer noted that the program not only seeks to ensure food availability but also aims to create opportunities for youth empowerment in agriculture.

This renewed focus on agribusiness is supported by significant budgetary allocations, with over N50 billion invested in agricultural projects within the past three years.

Governor Oyebanji’s administration continues to push for innovative food security measures including strategic infrastructure like the Ilu Eye Aggregation Hub launched in Ado-Ekiti, which further enhances the state’s agricultural value chain.

The government’s proactive approach reflects its resolve to make Ekiti State self-sufficient in food production and prevent future shortages, delivering on promises of good governance and sustainable development in the agricultural sector.

This commitment reaffirms Ekiti State’s position as a leading example in Nigeria’s push toward food security and economic resilience through agricultural empowerment and infrastructural investments.
