Governor Okpebholo Pledges to Reinforce APC in Edo Amid Increasing Defections

Governor Monday Okpebholo has pledged to restructure and reinforce the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State to accommodate the rising number of defectors joining the party.

During a campaign tour for Joe Ikpea in Esan West Local Government Area on Sunday, ahead of the Edo Central Senatorial By-election scheduled for next Saturday, the governor formally welcomed a large group of decampees into the APC at Ogwa, Ujogba (wards 1 and 2), and Illeh (ward 10).

Reflecting on his promise to President Muhammadu Buhari to deliver 2.5 million votes, Governor Okpebholo said, “When I promised Mr. President 2.5 million votes, somebody asked me where I was going to get it. But as you can see, the number of decampees received into APC is already surpassing what was there before.”

He emphasized that the influx of new members requires the party to be redefined and repositioned to remain strong and inclusive. “We will hold a meeting of decampees to restrategize and ensure the party can carry everybody along,” he added.

Okpebholo urged party members to stay united and dedicated, assuring that his administration would continue to invest in strengthening APC’s grassroots structures to secure future electoral victories in the state.
