Governor Sule Dismisses Fears of One-Party Rule, Credits APC Growth to Tinubu’s Reforms

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has rejected claims that Nigeria is heading toward a one-party system, asserting that the growing strength of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a result of its reform-oriented leadership under President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking to reporters at the State House after a meeting with the President, Governor Sule clarified that the APC’s increasing dominance does not threaten political diversity.

“Nigeria cannot become a one-party state. There will always be other parties. In fact, we want to remain dominant, not the only party,” he said.

Sule attributed the wave of defections to the APC to public confidence in the government’s performance, especially in economic and agricultural reforms.

He pointed to key changes such as the unification of exchange rates, subsidy removal, power sector improvements, and investments in skill development as reasons for the party’s growing popularity.

He emphasized that, in a democracy, it’s natural for parties to seek dominance, but this doesn’t eliminate the existence or relevance of opposition groups.
