Gunmen Abduct Nasarawa Chief Judge’s Aide During Late-Night Attack in Agyaragu

Mr. Enock Maku, the Senior Special Assistant on Information and Protocol to the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, has been abducted by gunmen in a brazen late-night attack that has left the Agyaragu community in Lafia Local Government Area shaken and terrified.

The abduction reportedly took place on the night of Wednesday, July 31, 2025. Sources within the community said the armed assailants stormed the area under the cover of darkness, firing sporadically and instilling fear among residents. The attackers specifically targeted Mr. Maku’s residence and forcefully took him away to an undisclosed location.

Following a distress call from the scene, the Nasarawa State Police Command launched a swift response. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, operatives of the command quickly mobilized and engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle. During the confrontation, two other abducted victims were successfully rescued from the gunmen.

Despite the efforts, the gunmen managed to escape with Mr. Maku. DSP Nansel confirmed that the command has commenced a full-scale investigation and a coordinated manhunt to track down the perpetrators. He assured the public that every necessary security measure is being taken to ensure the safe release of the abducted government official.

“The command has launched a full-scale investigation and manhunt to ensure the safe return of Mr. Enock Maku,” DSP Nansel stated. He also appealed to the public, particularly residents of the Agyaragu and Lafia axis, to remain calm and report any suspicious movement or information that could aid the ongoing operation.

This latest incident adds to the growing concern over rising insecurity in Nasarawa State and other parts of northern Nigeria, where cases of abductions, armed attacks, and community invasions have become increasingly common. Residents and civil society groups have repeatedly called on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect lives and property in the region.

As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of Mr. Maku remain unknown, and tension continues to mount in the area as family members, colleagues, and well-wishers await news of his condition and possible release.
