Gunmen Kill Over Seven, Injure Several Others in Imo Communities; Police Attribute Attack to IPOB/ESN
A deadly attack by gunmen in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State has left at least seven people dead and several others critically injured. The incidents took place in the communities of Ndi-Ejezie, Umualaoma, and Ndiakuwata Uno, all within Arondizuogu, early Friday morning, sparking widespread panic among residents.
Police authorities have confirmed that the assailants are suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
In a statement, DSP Henry Okoye, Police Public Relations Officer for Imo State Command, quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, who strongly condemned the attack. He described it as a “gruesome” and “senseless assault” that tragically claimed the lives of more than seven individuals and left several others critically wounded.
CP Danjuma characterized the attack as barbaric, inhumane, and totally unacceptable. He assured the public that tactical police units have been deployed to the affected areas to apprehend those responsible.
“The Command has mobilized sufficient operational and intelligence resources to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” DSP Okoye said. He also revealed that CP Danjuma personally led the security teams in an intensive combing operation, reassuring residents that the situation is now under control.
The police extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and a speedy recovery for the injured. They encouraged grieving families to remain strong through this difficult period.
