Gunmen Kill Two Policemen and Top Official Missing in Imo State Amid Rising Insecurity
IMo State, Nigeria Gunmen have killed two policemen attached to a lawmaker in Imo State while a top police official has gone missing following the violent attack.
The incident occurred in the early hours in Akabo community Ikeduru Local Government Area, where the two policemen were ambushed and shot by suspected members of armed groups.
Eyewitnesses reported chaos as the attackers, reportedly in numbers, launched a surprise assault causing panic in the area. A civilian was also killed during the attack.
The Imo State Police Command confirmed the incident, revealing that intensive operations are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
It was disclosed that the attackers are suspected to be affiliated with the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing Eastern Security Network (ESN).
In a related incident, one Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) disappeared during a gunmen attack near Okigwe, with fears growing that he may have been abducted or killed. The police continue a manhunt for those behind these attacks as insecurity worries rise in the state.
The Commissioner of Police has mobilized special tactical squads and security agencies to clamp down on the hoodlums responsible and restore safety to the affected communities.
The officers killed have been laid to rest, and investigations continue to bring those responsible to justice.
