He Never Stole a Kobo” — Akpabio Hails Buhari as a Rare Breed of Nigerian Leader
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has described the late President Muhammadu Buhari as a symbol of unwavering discipline and integrity, stating emphatically that “he never embezzled public funds.”
Speaking at a solemn expanded Federal Executive Council (FEC) session held in Abuja to honor the former president, Akpabio delivered an emotional tribute that painted Buhari as a selfless leader whose legacy will outlive generations.
“President Buhari believed in discipline. He lived by it. His leadership was never about power for power’s sake but about principles honesty, duty, and nationhood,” Akpabio declared.
Akpabio, who once served in Buhari’s cabinet, said the late president embodied austere leadership, emphasizing national service over personal gain.
“Let’s be honest he was tough. But it was never about pride. His toughness was born of patriotism, not arrogance,” he said.
He further praised Buhari’s resilience, describing him as a soldier-statesman who never flinched under pressure or ran from responsibility whether in military fatigues or traditional agbada.
“Even his harshest critics respected him. Why? Because they knew he couldn’t be bought. He stood firm for Nigeria, and that integrity, rare as it is, deserves to be remembered,” Akpabio added.
The Senate President concluded by urging Nigerians to reflect on Buhari’s example of sacrifice, forthrightness, and loyalty, especially in a political climate where such values are fast disappearing.
