“Her Fight Is Our Fight” – Sowore Vows Justice for Corper Raye Over Withheld NYSC Certificate

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has pledged full support for Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye, a corps member allegedly denied her NYSC discharge certificate under controversial circumstances.

In a post on his official X account on Saturday, August 10, Sowore described the NYSC’s action as a “gross injustice,” vowing to fight until she receives her certificate.

“It was Raye’s courage that pushed the authorities to raise the allowance for her colleagues. We will not abandon her. Her fight is our fight,” he wrote.

Raye gained national attention in March after a viral video in which she criticised the Tinubu administration’s handling of the economy.

She alleges that NYSC officials later threatened her, summoned her multiple times, and ultimately extended her service year by two months preventing her from collecting her certificate on time.

Sowore accused the NYSC of retaliating against her for speaking out, calling on Nigerians to unite against abuse of power.

The NYSC has not yet responded to the allegations as of the time of this report.
