Hilda Baci Declares Her Record-Breaking Jollof Pot a Priceless National Treasure
Guinness World Record holder and celebrity chef, Hilda Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has ruled out any possibility of selling or auctioning the giant pot she used in her latest historic feat.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday at the Gino Nigeria office in Lagos, Hilda described the iconic cookware as more than just a kitchen item, but a symbol of history, faith, and innovation. She revealed that despite receiving numerous offers from fans and collectors eager to buy the pot, she considers it priceless.
“That pot is a symbol of many beautiful things. It represents history, faith, and innovation. People have asked me to sell it or put it up for auction, but it means far too much to be sold,” she said.
Hilda disclosed that plans are already underway to restore the pot to its original form and make it publicly accessible, hinting it could one day be displayed in a museum or serve as a landmark for future generations. “We’re not going to sell it. Instead, we’ll ensure that as many people as possible get to see it in its glory,” she added.
The massive pot was used on Friday, September 19, 2025, when Hilda set a new Guinness World Record with the largest serving of Nigerian jollof rice, weighing 8,780 kilogrammes (19,356 lb 9 oz).
The attempt, carried out in partnership with Gino, drew thousands of food lovers, celebrities, and dignitaries, including Funke Akindele, Ogun First Lady Bamidele Abiodun, Kaffy, Veekee James, Tacha, Papaya, Enioluwa, Alex Unusual, and Spyro.
Hilda, who first rose to international fame with her 100-hour cook-a-thon in 2023, has once again placed Nigerian cuisine on the world stage, cementing her status as a culinary icon.
