Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State has been applauded for his exceptional investment in education.
The Executive Chairman of Nkanu West, Hon. Chidi Ogbodo, made this known on Wednesday during a seminar organized by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) at Prof. Julius Onah’s Auditorium, ESUT Agbani.
Hon. Ogbodo, who was represented by Barr. Chidi Ani, stated that Governor Mbah’s investment in education will transform the state into an education hub in Africa.
Commenting on the topic of the event, which was “Challenges, Development, and Prospects for Education in Nigeria,” Barr. Ani highlighted the government’s efforts in its enhancement, particularly Governor Peter Mbah’s unprecedented 33% budgetary allocation to education, which he said is even higher than UNESCO’s projection for developing countries.
He further emphasized that the Smart Green School in all political wards in Enugu State is also a testament to his achievement, making this a commendable effort towards solving education challenges in ESUT, Enugu State, and Nigeria.
“The state university also has a share in the 33% budgetary allocation, so I think the step of Enugu State in education is commendable, and other states should emulate such,” Barr. Ani emphasized.
He also stated the importance of curriculum review towards getting modern education knowledge for a better Enugu State.
“Curriculum review can be achieved through government policy, and the government is already at it. If you were listening to the lectures, I made mention of the type of curriculum at Smart Green Schools, where students are trained in skills; they are trained to be multi-skilled, multi-tasking, so that even if you are studying any course, you will be trained with another skill. It is not just when you are reading law, for instance, you will read law only; now you can diversify.”
“In the Smart School, students are being trained on AI, robotics, ICT, at an early stage, and we say it is changing the life scale because very soon, private schools will be unattractive. His Excellency is taking us back to those days when government schools were the best. So, the private schools that seem to be striving these days will very soon, in fact, before His Excellency finishes as governor, private schools will be unattractive. To the private schools, you had better try to look at what you will do because you can’t compete.”
