“I Was Assaulted!” – Nigerian Streamer Peller Alleges Police Brutality in Viral Encounter
Popular Nigerian content creator and streamer, Habeeb Okikiola widely known as Peller has sparked massive reactions online after a disturbing video surfaced showing his tense encounter with police officers in Lekki, Lagos.
In the now-viral footage, Peller is seen seated in the back of his car, recording the officers who had pulled him over during a late-night trip back from Ikorodu.
According to Peller, things escalated when one of the officers, apparently enraged by the recording, approached and struck him in the face.
The video becomes blurry at that point, hinting at a brief physical confrontation. Fortunately, another officer recognized the TikTok star and intervened before the situation worsened. Stepping out of his vehicle, Peller expressed anger and disappointment, publicly accusing the officer of harassment and assault.
Sharing the incident with his followers, Peller wrote:
“I was coming back from Ikorodu and this happened in Lekki. The policeman said we should open the boot and we did. Next thing, everyone was asked to come down for searching. I carried my phone just in case. Next thing, he punched me in the face. Then the others started saying he didn’t know I was the one. So this is what you do to random people?”
The incident has stirred strong online reactions, with fans and fellow influencers calling out police misconduct and asking what might have happened had Peller not been a public figure. While some users sympathized with the young influencer, others urged him to take legal action and make an example out of the assaulting officer.
