“I Was Blacklisted in Hollywood for Refusing to Kiss Other Women” — Actor Neal McDonough Reveals

Veteran Hollywood actor Neal McDonough has revealed how his firm personal values once cost him his career, as he was blacklisted in the industry for refusing to participate in on-screen romantic scenes involving other women.

In a recent interview, McDonough disclosed that his unwavering commitment to his marriage led him to include a strict no-kissing clause in all his acting contracts. Despite his wife having no issue with his acting roles, McDonough said the restriction was a decision he made for himself.

“I always had in my contracts that I wouldn’t kiss another woman on screen. My wife didn’t have any problem with it. It was me, really, who had a problem,” he said.

The actor explained that as he and his wife were preparing to start a family, he made a conscious choice to avoid romantic roles, choosing instead to honor their shared values and keep their marriage sacred even on screen.

However, this decision didn’t go down well in Hollywood. McDonough revealed he was fired from a television show after refusing to wear a “modesty sock” for a simulated sex scene, which led to a period of professional isolation.

“They wouldn’t let me be part of the show anymore. And for two years, I couldn’t get a job, and I lost everything you could possibly imagine not just houses and material things, but your swagger, your cool, who you are, your identity, everything,” he recounted.

Despite facing immense challenges, McDonough said he has no regrets. His career began to rebound after he was cast in the hit series Justified by producer Graham Yost, reigniting his journey in Hollywood.

Now widely admired not just for his acting talent but for his strong personal convictions, Neal McDonough continues to thrive on his own terms. He is best known for roles in Band of Brothers, Desperate Housewives, and Yellowstone.
