“I was criticised for dressing too sexy” – Tiwa Savage
During a recent interview with Kiss FM, UK, Nigerian artist Tiwa Savage reflected on facing substantial criticism for her bold fashion choices and daring lyrics in the early stages of her music career.
Savage shared that she faced heavy backlash for her style, with many disapproving of her “sexy” outfits and edgy song lyrics.
Despite the negative feedback, Savage expressed her admiration for Ayra Starr, praising her resilience and success in the face of similar scrutiny.
Savage commended Starr for thriving in the global music industry despite facing criticism from Nigerians regarding her fashion sense, highlighting Starr’s unwavering dedication to her craft.
She said,
“I love Ayra [Starr]. I’m obsessed with her. She’s amazing and genuine, too. It makes me emotional because when I started, I got criticised a lot for dressing too sexy and my lyrics being too risky.
“So, seeing someone, Ayra now…If I see her wearing the short skirts as they [critics] say, I’m like, ‘Make it shorter.’
“And she looks amazing, she’s extremely talented. Yeah, she’s a star.”
