Ijaw Leaders Condemn Suspension of Rivers Governor, Accuse President Tinubu of Being Misled.

Ijaw leaders in the Niger Delta have criticized President Bola Tinubu’s decision to suspend Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and declare a state of emergency in the state.

They claim that the president was misled by false information and that the suspension was politically motivated. The leaders, including the president of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Prof. Benjamin Okaba, and renowned Niger Delta activist Ann-Kio Briggs, argue that the president’s actions were unjust and unfair.

They point out that the Supreme Court had ruled that the state’s allocation should not be released until the governor presented a budget to the House of Assembly, but the president released the funds to the sole administrator without following the proper procedure.

The leaders also accuse the president of double standards, noting that he has not declared a state of emergency in other states facing security challenges. They call on the president to reverse his decision and reinstate Governor Fubara.
