Ilhan Omar Blasts Trump, Says ‘Idiots Are Leading America’

Minnesota congresswoman Ilhan Omar has lashed out at U.S. President Donald Trump and several Republican lawmakers, saying their recent remarks prove that “America is being led by idiots.”

Omar, who represents Minnesota’s 5th District, came under fire after retweeting a post that critics claimed blamed slain activist and Trump ally Charlie Kirk for his own death. In response, Republican congresswoman Nancy Mace introduced a resolution to censure Omar, but the move narrowly failed in the House by a 214–213 vote.

Speaking in an interview with MSNBC News on Sunday, Omar dismissed Trump’s calls for her impeachment, stressing that the president lacks basic knowledge of constitutional processes.
“He’s supposed to be the president of the United States, heading off to Europe to represent us. When he does, he should at least know that members of Congress cannot be impeached,” Omar said.

The lawmaker, who is of Somali descent, also criticized Trump’s allies for suggesting she could be deported.
“When they say they’re going to deport me—knowing full well that I’m an American citizen—what that shows both to Americans and the international community is that our country is being led by idiots,” she stated.

Omar added that such rhetoric was not only embarrassing but also damaging to America’s global reputation, saying she felt deep sadness that “these are the kinds of people representing us.”
