INEC Assures Smooth Logistics Ahead of Anambra Governorship Election
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Joash Amupitan, has assured that logistics for the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election are fully in place to ensure a smooth, credible, and peaceful process.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum in Awka on Tuesday, Amupitan said the commission had completed 11 of the 13 activities in its election timetable and was “fully prepared” for the polls. He disclosed that INEC had engaged 2,233 buses and 83 boats to transport personnel and materials across the state, including riverine areas.
He noted that political parties would inspect sensitive materials at the Central Bank of Nigeria, while uncollected voter cards would be secured there until after the election. To ensure inclusivity, sign-language interpreters will be deployed across polling units to assist over 3,000 registered persons with disabilities.
Amupitan also warned electoral officials against misconduct, stressing that violations of the Electoral Act would attract sanctions. “Let’s all say no to vote-buying and rigging,” he said.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has also warned criminal elements against disrupting the election, assuring residents that security agencies are ready to enforce the law. Represented by Umar Hadejia, Acting Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, the IGP urged troublemakers to “leave Anambra now” or face arrest and prosecution.
He confirmed that security personnel had been deployed and emergency lines activated for swift response during the election. “All law-abiding citizens should not fear; our men will stand by to respond to distress,” Hadejia said.
The Director of Programmes at CLEEN Foundation, Salaudeen Hashim, expressed optimism about the election, noting improved stability in the state but urging vigilance among security agencies and political actors.
The Anambra governorship election will take place on Saturday, with 2.8 million registered voters and 16 political parties participating.
