Influencer ‘Ijele’ Accuses Police of Editing Videos to Frame Him, Recounts Year-Long Detention Over Criticism of Prophet Ebuka Obi
Nigerian social media influencer Chizorom Harrison Ofoegbu, popularly known as Ijele Speaks II, has alleged that the Nigeria Police Force deceptively edited his videos to falsely implicate him, leading to his unlawful detention for over a year.
He claims the arrest stemmed from his outspoken criticism of self-proclaimed prophet Ebuka Obi and the exposure of alleged fake miracles.
In a video obtained, Ijele detailed how he was lured by police officers on March 19, 2024, under the guise of responding to a petition.
Instead of a routine inquiry, he was detained, denied communication with his lawyers and friends, and shown edited versions of his videos as supposed evidence.
“They didn’t tell me who wrote the petition. When I arrived, they began asking about my relationship with Ebuka Obi and played altered clips of my videos,” Ijele said.
He recounted how he was taken to a non-functional magistrate court in Abuja and subsequently remanded in custody without a formal trial. Despite a magistrate striking out the case for lack of jurisdiction, Ijele said another court was quickly used to secure a second remand order.
During his detention across prisons in Abuja, Keffi, and Lagos, Ijele’s health reportedly deteriorated leading to kidney failure. He also alleged that Prophet Obi once publicly stated he would suffer “organ damage,” raising suspicion about the timing and nature of his illness.
Ijele credited Chief Femi Falana (SAN) and his wife for stepping in to provide free legal aid, although the bail conditions were severe ₦50 million, two level 14 civil servants as sureties, and landed property.
Even after securing bail, another case surfaced in Awka allegedly backed by figures connected to IPOB and the Eastern Security Network (ESN). He alleged that attempts were made to forcefully transfer him to Anambra, where he had previously exposed illegal oil activities and spiritual scams.
“They know I exposed them. That’s why they wanted me in Awka to silence me,” Ijele added.
Eventually, with intervention from the Attorney General of the Federation, the case was transferred to Lagos, and his bail conditions remained valid. The influencer has since regained his freedom and vowed to continue speaking out against religious exploitation and systemic abuse.
