IPOB Denies Involvement in Southeast Violence, Reaffirms Peaceful Struggle for Biafra

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has strongly distanced itself from recent killings, kidnappings, and criminal activities in the Southeast and South-South, reaffirming its commitment to a peaceful and legal campaign for Biafra’s self-determination.

In a statement released Wednesday, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful, speaking on behalf of detained leader Nnamdi Kanu, said the group condemns the insecurity plaguing the region and warned against individuals falsely operating in their name.

Citing attacks in Abia, Anambra, Imo, Enugu, and Ebonyi states, IPOB emphasized that neither its leadership nor grassroots units authorized such violent actions. “We do not kill. We do not kidnap. We do not compel through terror,” the group stated.

They described recent violence as the work of either criminal elements or state-sponsored agents aimed at tarnishing IPOB’s image and justifying Kanu’s continued detention—despite court orders demanding his release.

The group also condemned the illegal enforcement of sit-at-home orders and extortion, calling them acts of betrayal. IPOB warned that anyone involved in such violence is sabotaging the cause for Biafra.

“IPOB was established to protect our people, not endanger them. We are peaceful, focused, and our cause is just,” the group declared.
