“It Just Wasn’t Working Anymore” – 2Baba Opens Up About Divorce from Annie Idibia
Legendary Nigerian musician, Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has spoken publicly about his divorce from Nollywood actress and longtime partner, Annie Macaulay-Idibia, offering heartfelt reflections on their relationship.
2Baba made the remarks during a recent appearance on a podcast hosted by media personality Nedu Wazobia, where he addressed the separation for the first time since the announcement in January 2024.
The couple’s split had sparked widespread speculation at the time, though both parties had remained largely silent on the reasons behind the decision.
During the podcast, 2Baba emphasized that he and Annie both gave their all to make the marriage work but eventually had to face the reality that their relationship had run its course.
“I think both of us gave it our best,” he said. “Why we are not together is not something I’m going to start talking about here in the public. Me and her, we get our understanding. She’s amazing. Like I said earlier, it wasn’t just working no more. That’s just it.”
The singer’s respectful tone and refusal to cast blame have drawn admiration from fans and observers, who praised his maturity and emotional honesty.
2Baba and Annie were once regarded as one of Nigeria’s most admired celebrity couples, with their relationship often in the public eye, including appearances on reality TV and numerous collaborations. Despite challenges and public scrutiny, the two had remained committed partners for years before their eventual separation.
This recent interview marks 2Baba’s most candid commentary on the issue, reaffirming that even though they are no longer together, there is still mutual respect and admiration between them.
