“It’s All About Clout Now” – Nigerian Lady Says Hallelujah Challenge Has Lost Its Spiritual Essence
A Nigerian lady has stirred debate online after expressing disappointment over how the popular Hallelujah Challenge, led by gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey, has changed over the years.
In a viral TikTok video, she lamented that the midnight worship program, once known for its genuine spiritual atmosphere, has now become “too noisy and focused on clout.”
According to her, the early editions of the challenge felt more intimate and purely faith-driven. She captioned her post, “I miss when Hallelujah Challenge was just for us. No noise, no clouts.”
The Hallelujah Challenge, which started as an Instagram Live worship session, has grown into one of Nigeria’s largest online prayer movements, attracting thousands of participants worldwide.
However, some online users now argue that the program feels more like a social media trend than a sacred gathering.
While several commenters agreed with the lady’s sentiment, saying the event has become too commercialized, others defended its evolution, insisting that spreading the gospel through modern platforms shouldn’t be seen as “chasing clout.”
As of now, Nathaniel Bassey has not responded to the viral claim, though the challenge continues to dominate social media each night.
