Iyabo Ojo Opens Up on Her Past, Explains Support for Princess Against Baba Ijesha

Popular Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has spoken candidly about the personal experiences that shaped her passionate support for comedienne Princess during the widely publicized rape case involving actor Baba Ijesha.

Speaking in a recent episode of The Goldroom with Iyabo, Ojo revealed she had been a victim of molestation multiple times, a painful history that deeply influenced her response to the case.

“I really didn’t control my emotions then because I was outraged by what happened,” she said. “I think it’s because I was also coming from that part, where I had gone through whatever she went through multiple times… and I just felt like enough is enough.”

The actress condemned the backlash Princess and the victim received, noting that it highlights the urgent need for stronger child protection laws and societal reform in Nigeria.

She also called out her fellow entertainers, stressing that public figures must lead by example: “You’ll notice when I kick, I kick when my fellow entertainers do wrong, because I feel like we are supposed to do right by our people. We are also evangelists… we cannot be preaching and doing the same bad thing that we’re telling people is wrong.”

Ojo’s remarks have reignited conversations around celebrity responsibility and the long road ahead in ensuring justice and safety for children in Nigeria.
