Japan Denies Allegations of Special Visa for Nigerians to Move to Kisarazu.
The Japanese government has dismissed reports suggesting that Nigerians or other Africans will be granted special visas under its new “JICA Africa Hometown” initiative.
In a statement released on Monday, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that claims about a new visa category for Nigerians relocating to Kisarazu city were “contrary to the facts.”
According to the ministry, the programme was introduced during the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) as part of efforts to deepen cooperation with Africa.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) explained that the Africa Hometown project was designed to promote cultural and developmental exchanges between African countries and selected Japanese local governments.
“Under this program, four cities in Japan are designated as ‘hometowns’ for four African countries. JICA plans to strengthen ties through exchange events, including activities involving overseas cooperation volunteers.
On the other hand, there are no plans to promote immigration or issue special visas for Africans. Reports claiming otherwise are untrue,” the statement emphasized.
The ministry assured that Japan will continue to foster partnerships with Africa but warned against the spread of misleading information.
