Justice for Mohbad: Iyabo Ojo Urges Wizkid, Tiwa Savage to Speak Up for Young Artists
Nollywood actress and activist, Iyabo Ojo, has made a passionate appeal to Afrobeats superstars Wizkid and Tiwa Savage, calling on them to join the campaign for justice for the late singer Mohbad.
Speaking during a recent Instagram Live session with fans, Iyabo Ojo emphasized that Mohbad, like many rising stars in Nigeria, was inspired by industry heavyweights such as Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, and others.
She stressed that the silence of leading figures in the entertainment world sends the wrong message to the younger generation of artists who look up to them for guidance and protection.
“Wizkid and Tiwa Savage, I need you,” Ojo said emotionally.
“These young boys come from the slums and ghettos just like most of you did, and they were inspired by you guys to become artists. We cannot allow any cult or individual to pull them down.”
Iyabo argued that Nigeria’s musical talent should be protected at all costs, reminding her audience of the hardships endured by music legends like Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, and 2Baba, who often faced unjust treatment from record label executives and government authorities.
“We must not allow what Fela, Sunny Ade, and 2Baba went through to be repeated in this generation. Their music is giving us joy, and Nigeria is on the global map because of them,” she stated.
Ojo’s plea comes amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the death of Mohbad, a former signee of Marlian Music.
Although Naira Marley and his associate Sam Larry have consistently denied involvement, and a Lagos court dismissed a suit filed by Mohbad’s father citing lack of evidence, public demand for answers and justice has not subsided.
Nearly two years after the singer’s death, the investigation remains unresolved. Ojo, who has been one of the most vocal public figures in seeking accountability, continues to push for clarity and reform in the music industry.
She concluded by urging unity in the industry and emphasizing the need for top artists to protect those coming behind them, especially from exploitative or dangerous situations.
