K1 De Ultimate Accused of Splashing Liquid on ValueJet Pilot During Boarding Dispute – NCAA
Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has shed light on the recent altercation involving Fuji legend K1 De Ultimate and ValueJet staff.
Speaking to Arise TV, Achimugu explained that the incident began when K1 De Ultimate was denied boarding for carrying a liquid container exceeding the globally accepted limit of 100ml. The situation escalated when the musician allegedly splashed the liquid onto the pilot’s uniform during a heated exchange.
According to Achimugu, unruly passenger behavior is unacceptable worldwide, and pilots have the discretion to deny boarding to anyone who refuses to comply with safety regulations. In this case, the pilot chose not to allow K1 on board to avoid delaying other passengers and disrupting the flight schedule.
K1 reportedly attempted to prevent the aircraft from taking off, an act Achimugu described as a “serious offence.” He also noted that while the NCAA can discipline the pilot whose license has been temporarily seized pending investigation it has no power to prosecute passengers.
The agency has therefore petitioned the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police to take legal action against K1 De Ultimate.
The investigation will examine how the liquid made it past earlier security checks, and all parties found responsible from the passenger to any airport personnel involved will face penalties. Achimugu stressed that the liquid’s content, whether water or alcohol, is irrelevant; the rule against carrying liquids over 100ml applies regardless.
