Kaduna Governor, Uba Sani, Alleviates Fears of State Governors Misusing State Police, Says National Assembly Can Prevent Abuse of Power

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has addressed concerns that state governors might exploit the state police to target their political opponents, stating that the National Assembly has the power to prevent such misuse.

The governor’s remarks come after the National Economic Council meeting in Abuja, where he revealed that 36 state governors have submitted their positions on establishing state police, with overwhelming support for the initiative.

Governor Sani emphasized that the National Assembly can prevent governors from misusing the state police by crafting laws that limit their powers.

He explained that the lawmaking process involves considering the advantages and disadvantages of various clauses, which can help prevent abuse of power.

The governor believes that if the state police had been established three years ago, many states in Nigeria would not be facing the current level of insecurity that disrupts business activities and other aspects of life.

The establishment of state police is expected to improve intelligence gathering and sharing among security operatives, as local communities are better equipped to provide valuable insights and information.
