Kaduna Widows Get New Homes Under Tinubu’s Social Housing Scheme

The Federal Government has handed over 100 two-bedroom energy-efficient homes to widows in Rigachikun, Kaduna State, under the Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL) Social Housing Programme.

According to a statement from the Presidency titled “Delivering Renewed Hope, One Home at a Time,” the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on inclusive development and the empowerment of vulnerable citizens through sustainable housing.

“These homes represent far more than physical structures. They symbolise renewed hope and restored dignity, particularly for the 100 resilient women empowered through this initiative,” said Demola Adebise, Chairman of FHFL.

He explained that the project introduces a new model of social housing in Nigeria — one that combines home ownership with skills training, livelihood support, and climate-smart construction.

The initiative began when widows in the community pooled their land and approached the Federal Government through FHFL to build affordable homes. Each unit was constructed using Expanded Polystyrene System technology, reducing costs and carbon emissions by up to 40 per cent. The houses are powered by solar energy, and beneficiaries received livelihood training and cottage yards for food production and processing.

Managing Director of FHFL, Abdulmuttalib Mukhtar, described the project as proof that collaboration between citizens and government can deliver real change. “This project stands as clear evidence that when citizens take initiative and government responds with support, transformation happens,” he said.

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, said the effort reflects Tinubu’s vision of ensuring government spending produces tangible results. “Through initiatives like this, we are ensuring that government spending translates into tangible outcomes — roofs over heads, jobs for women and youth, and dignity for our people,” he stated.

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, called it a model of people-centred governance. “Our administration is proud to host this first-of-its-kind energy-efficient social housing project for widows. It reflects Kaduna State’s commitment to inclusive growth and innovation,” he said.

The project, executed in partnership with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and the Kaduna State Government, created over 500 jobs during construction and provided 100 families with sustainable homes a practical example of turning policy into progress and progress into opportunity.
