Kano Traditional Leader Idris Dankabo Passes Away at 48

Allaji Idris Adamu Dankabo, the District Head of Kabo and holder of the prestigious title Sarkin Gabas in Kano State, has died at the age of 48.

He passed away on Thursday night following a severe motor accident in Kano metropolis.

The Kano Emirate Council confirmed the death on its official Facebook page, “Sanusi Dynasty.” Dankabo was the eldest son of the late Alhaji Muhammad Adamu Dankabo, former Chairman of Kabo Air and Jarma of Kano. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Funeral prayers are scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. at the Kano Emir’s palace, with the Emir expected to lead the rites.

The Dankabo family has long been influential in Kano, with the late patriarch contributing significantly to business, politics, and philanthropy. Kabo Air, founded in 1980, operated domestic, regional, and international flights before transitioning to mainly charter and Hajj services in the 2000s.

The title of Sarkin Gabas, held by Idris Dankabo, is a senior position within the Kano Emirate hierarchy, carrying both cultural and administrative responsibilities.

His untimely death leaves a significant gap in the traditional leadership of one of Northern Nigeria’s most prominent emirates.
