Kebbi State Mourns 30 Deaths in Bandit Attacks, Moves to Introduce Death Penalty for Informants
The Kebbi State Government has announced its intention to amend state laws to impose the death penalty or life imprisonment on individuals found guilty of aiding bandits with information.
This decision comes in the wake of renewed attacks in Tadurga village (Zuru LGA) and Kyebu (Danko/Wasagu LGA), which claimed the lives of at least 30 residents.
Governor Nasiru Idris made the announcement on Tuesday during a condolence visit to the affected communities.
He described informants as a serious threat to society and stressed that the state would treat all security threats with the utmost seriousness.
He revealed that plans are underway to establish a Nigerian Army operational base in the Zuru Emirate to enhance regional security. The state has also received Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and other military-grade equipment from Abuja.
Governor Idris highlighted the administration’s security investments, including 80 Hilux patrol vehicles, 1,500 motorcycles for local vigilantes, and increased operational allowances for security forces.
He urged citizens not to politicize security matters and warned against spreading unverified information online.
Traditional rulers, including the Emir of Zuru, Gen. Sani Sami (Rtd.), expressed appreciation for the governor’s visit and called for more military presence, particularly along border communities vulnerable to infiltration by armed groups.
