Kenneth Okonkwo Declares Support for Northern Candidate in 2027 Presidential Election
Nollywood veteran and political figure Kenneth Okonkwo has stated that he will support a Northern candidate in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Okonkwo expressed skepticism over the chances of any Southern politician defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next election cycle.
According to the former spokesperson for the Labour Party presidential campaign, fielding a Southern candidate under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) would only strengthen Tinubu’s chances of re-election.
“My own strategy is that I am going to support a Northerner in 2027,” Okonkwo said.
“But my condition is clear it must be a Northerner with massive support from the North. The candidate must be qualified, experienced, and ideally have experience in the presidency.”
He argued that a well-backed Northern contender stands a better chance of consolidating votes across regions and building the national momentum required to unseat the incumbent.
The actor-turned-politician’s remarks have sparked fresh debate about zoning, political alliances, and power rotation ahead of the 2027 general election.
