Keyamo: Peter Obi Will Look Desperate, Unserious If He Runs as Atiku’s Running Mate in 2027
Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has criticized the possibility of Peter Obi returning as a vice-presidential candidate alongside Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 elections, describing such a move as evidence of political desperation and a lack of seriousness.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Monday night, Keyamo expressed skepticism over reports suggesting that Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023, might once again align with Atiku under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform ahead of the next general elections.
Keyamo reminded viewers that Obi previously contested the 2019 election as Atiku’s running mate under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and later contested independently in 2023 under the Labour Party, finishing third behind President Bola Tinubu and Atiku.
Reacting to the renewed speculation, Keyamo said such political maneuvering damages Obi’s image.
“It is doom for them. There is no way forward for them in that coalition,” he said.
“You will now have that Obi picture: vice-presidential candidate in 2019, presidential candidate in 2023, and then vice-presidential candidate again in 2027.
“It gives the impression of a desperate, unserious individual.”
Keyamo’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions about a possible opposition alliance to challenge the APC in the 2027 elections, with names like Atiku and Obi frequently mentioned as potential flag bearers.
