Kwara Businessman ‘Alhaji Chemical’ Freed After One Month in Captivity, ₦30M Ransom Allegedly Paid

Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Gaskiya, a prominent agrochemical dealer popularly known as Alhaji Chemical, has reportedly regained his freedom after spending over a month in captivity.

A close relative who spoke to NupekoTV-Lafiagi under the condition of anonymity confirmed the release, disclosing that a ransom of ₦30 million was allegedly paid to secure his freedom.

Alhaji Chemical, the CEO of Gaskiya Agrochemical, was abducted on June 29, 2025, from his residence in the Taiwo area of Lafiagi, Kwara State. The incident sparked widespread fear in the Edu Local Government Area and highlighted the worsening security situation in the Kwara North region.

Eyewitnesses said the kidnappers, who arrived on motorcycles, outgunned local vigilantes before seizing their target and escaping to an undisclosed location. Sources within the community believe the attack was carefully planned, as the businessman appeared to be the specific target.

His eventual release on July 30, 2025, brought immense relief to his family and the Lafiagi community, which had been gripped by tension since the abduction.

The case has renewed public outcry over the deteriorating state of security in Kwara State. Many residents continue to urge authorities and security agencies to take more decisive action in safeguarding lives and property.
