Labour Party in Abia State Passes Vote of Confidence in Governor Alex Otti Amid Concerns Over Appointments

The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party has expressed renewed confidence in Governor Alex Otti through a formal vote of confidence, reaffirming their support for his administration amid concerns regarding alleged lopsided appointments within the state government. This decision was made during an enlarged stakeholders meeting held over the weekend.

During the meeting, which included members of the party’s State Working Committee, Abia LP chairman Emmanuel Nweze Otti emphasized that Governor Otti has performed exceptionally well, stating, “We have a governor who knows what it takes to develop the state.

He praised Otti’s achievements in various sectors, including healthcare, education, and infrastructure, asserting that no zone in the state has been neglected under his leadership.

The party’s endorsement comes in response to criticisms regarding the governor’s appointment practices. Some members have raised concerns that appointments have favored non-party loyalists.

In addressing these allegations, Chairman Otti clarified that appointments are based on merit and capability rather than party affiliation. He stated no government will bring anybody outside the party. Before appointments, the person must be known.

The Labour Party leaders reiterated their commitment to supporting Governor Otti’s administration and urged stakeholders to remain united against opposition forces. They criticized social media reports that spread rumors about the governor’s performance and called for solidarity among party members.

Otti concluded by reaffirming that he remains committed to serving all Abians, not just those affiliated with the Labour Party. He stated, “Otti is not governor of the Labour Party, but of all Abians, emphasizing his dedication to inclusive governance.

As the political landscape continues to evolve in Abia State, this vote of confidence reflects the Labour Party’s efforts to strengthen its leadership and support for Governor Otti’s administration amidst ongoing challenges.
