Labour Party Shakes Leadership: Abure, Farouk Suspended Over Financial Misconduct, NWC Dissolved.

In a dramatic shake-up within the Labour Party, the National Executive Council (NEC) has suspended former National Chairman Julius Abure and ex-National Secretary Alhaji Farouk Umar for six months over allegations of financial impropriety and anti-party activities.

The suspension, announced in Abuja through a statement by Senator Nenadi Usman, Chair of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, and Secretary Senator Darlington Nwokocha, follows the findings of a disciplinary panel led by Senator Ireti Kingibe and High Chief Peter Ameh.

According to the committee’s report, Abure and Farouk were involved in serious financial misconduct, including unauthorized bank withdrawals and transfers.

As a result, both are barred from presenting themselves in any official party capacity pending further investigations.

In a bold move to clean house, the NEC also dissolved Abure’s entire National Working Committee (NWC), warning that defiance of these sanctions will attract harsher penalties.

The party reiterated its commitment to enforcing internal discipline, transparency, and accountability.

This announcement comes just after the Abure-led faction attempted to suspend prominent party members, including Governor Alex Otti and Senator Ireti Kingibe — a move now deemed invalid following a Supreme Court ruling that nullified Abure’s leadership status.
