Lagos–Badagry Superhighway Will Last 50 Years, Open New Opportunities — Goronyo
The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to delivering the Lagos–Badagry Superhighway, describing the project as one that will open vast economic opportunities, create jobs, and promote national integration.
Goronyo made the remarks on Thursday during an inspection of the Kebbi axis of the ongoing construction. He expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work by the contractor, Hightech Construction Company, noting that significant progress has been recorded.
According to the Minister, nearly four kilometres of reinforced concrete pavement have already been completed, while the company has cleared about 64 kilometres of the project corridor and finished earth filling on 15 kilometres. He added that solar-powered streetlights have been installed along completed sections, demonstrating the long-term durability and quality of the work.
Goronyo praised President Bola Tinubu for ensuring that major national infrastructure projects are evenly distributed across all geopolitical zones, describing the President as a leader committed to unity and inclusive development.
He emphasised that the Lagos–Badagry Superhighway is designed to last over 50 years and will link Illela, near the Niger Republic border, to Lagos thereby strengthening regional trade, boosting cross-border commerce, and supporting sub-Saharan economic integration.
The Minister noted that the project would generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs during and after construction, stimulate trade activities, and help reduce insecurity across communities along the corridor.
He urged residents of Northern Nigeria not to be swayed by political sentiments ahead of the 2027 elections, reminding them that the road was first conceived during the Shagari administration but only became a reality under President Tinubu.
Goronyo stressed that the scale and financial demands of the superhighway project reflect President Tinubu’s dedication to a united, prosperous Nigeria.
“Mr President has started strongly, and with the support of Nigerians, he will take the country to the promised land,” the Minister added.
