Lagos Court Restrains Baba Mohbad, Yomi Fabiyi, Others from Speaking on Omowunmi and Liam
A Magistrate Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos State, has issued a restraining order against Baba Mohbad, Bukky Jesse, Yomi Fabiyi, Larry Omodia, and Adewale Mariam, preventing them from making public statements about the late singer Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi, and their son, Liam.
The order, which will last for one year, prohibits the individuals from inciting the public against Omowunmi and Liam, subjecting them to bullying, harassment, or defamatory remarks.
The ruling follows a series of heated public controversies involving the listed individuals and the family of the late artiste.
According to the court, the decision was taken to safeguard the privacy and well-being of Omowunmi and her child while reducing the spread of harmful narratives.
The restraining order highlights the court’s stance on protecting vulnerable individuals from online and offline attacks. By restricting inflammatory commentary, the judiciary aims to strike a balance between personal protection and maintaining social order.
The ruling has since drawn widespread attention on social media. While many supporters praised the court for prioritizing the safety of Mohbad’s family, others have raised concerns about how such legal measures could affect freedom of speech.
Despite the mixed reactions, the decision underscores the growing tension between public discourse, online activism, and the need to protect individuals from potential harm.
